spring break....and all is quiet

its the fourth day into spring break and all's quiet here. everyone has either gone home if ur aussie or exploring this huge continent like jordan in darwin and the pinoy group in melbourne. why am i at home then? well i'm basically kind of totally broke at the mo so unless i go sell some ass at king's cross im kinda stuck i suppose. actually cutted short a stay down in syd so that i can come back and lie low till the weekend when the moolah comes in. hooray for IH dinners!

past few weeks has been littered with hectic assignment due days, some crazy nights out, discovering new circles of friends, alot of music listening to and the like. how about the future? well after the break it's another 3 weeks of uni and then exams period kicks in to kick our asses. something to look forward to is bloc party 3 days after my last paper! finally gonna get to see them after 2 failed attempts and a flight to melb to catch them with step will add some spice to the experience. oh and Big Day Out 09 has been announced! the biggest annual music fest down under akin to Glastonbury of the UK and Lollapalooza of the US is held every January-end and im praying it won't coincide with the ang pows and oranges of gong xi gong xi happiness. anyone has any idea when CNY next year will be?

so for some relief from words and text, when you break the glass bottom of a shisha that u've only had for a week what do you do? well according to my genius friend you do this:

ingenious eh? i guess it still serves its function and let me say that im sure pulling off such a feat with such spontaneity can only come hand in hand if ur drunk.....the power of alcohol.

"oh SHIT!!! i broke the shisha!"
"WTF???!! totally broken man! no more shishaaaa!!"
"wait wait, don't worry. hang on. lemme see. what can we do. ahh there's a bottle in the common room, and its empty! wah extra jucy some more. ok gimme 5 mins"

after 5 mins

"TADA!! see all fixed, we can shisha again. and its not glass so it will never break"

gd job man. now at least there's still an oulet to release our stress. i always thought shishaing was less harmful than smoking regular ciggs coz its like flavoured air man! but when i did some research, i was surprised. according to wikipedia, its more harmful coz of the session times. most poeple would shisha for at least 30-45 mins a session and this overall is longer than puffing on a deathstick. and the water that is being used as a filter might not be an effective filter at all. oh well what can i say.

ok to sign off this post let me recommend 5 songs you should listen to today!

1. O Girlfriend - Weezer ( i know its not exactly new, but it's meaningful and sad in a way)
2. The Park - Feist (omg, her voice is magnificient here! so raw and beautiful. and the way she's pining for her loved one makes it all the more touching)
3. Everyone Gets A Star - Albert Hammond Jr. (in your headable!)
4. 23 - Jimmy Eat World (emo!)
5. Sway & Gap - The Kooks (ok it's 2 songs i know but both are catchy and i like the sound)

Alritey, I've more songs to list but will keep it for next time. Oh baby

death cab death cab!!!

now how great is this.
upon waking up on saturday, there was a new message waiting for me on my mobile.

Ruth Feeney:
Death cab are coming to syd in august. I think im going
do you want me to see if there are still tickets?

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE people! music maestros from which gave birth to brilliance like Transatlanticism and Plans. musos whose songs meant alot to me in different stages my life.

For a moment i'm not sure whether i'm dreaming so i look around and yeap, the cheapass ikea clock is showing the same time as my mobile is, im wearing the same stuff i went to bed with, Sufjan's Illinoise album inlay is still adorning my wall so YES! THIS IS REAL!

oh but wait. msg was sent at 12:16pm and now is like err, 4 something. oh no that means 4 precious hours in the land of frentic-concert-ticket-grabbing! so the next few things happened in a flash.

1.tumble outta bed (couldn't really see coz the eyes were still being a bitch and not wanting to open properly hence just throw self outta bed)
2. quickly turn on lappie. oh wait its in standby mode. thank God for Windows.
3. visit www.yourgigs.com.au to check whether its not a prank. and yes its real which is weird cause they usually give more time between announcing gigs and ticket selling day.
4. found out ticketek is selling them. so furious clicking is a must because that SO increases the speed of page loading by firefox.
5. find their gig listing and there's still FLOOR TICKETS!! AHHHH!! WOOOHOO!! YEEHA!!
6. jumped around in circles exclamining OH YEAH BABY!! repeatedly.

DAMN DAMN HAPPY YOU KNOW!! come on everybody rejoice with me. alright i know im going abit overboard but i really like them ok. some more its floor tickets! man i must say this is gonna be one of the best things of this year to ever happen, besides if things do work out with her of course. and cant wait to check out the merch! mel has already decided to go for the apple shirt or whatever she calls it from the website and she too is duly excited. oh well now back to trying to study

im going to see these guys live!

kinda filler

so here i am. 5.30 in the morning wide awake and hearing people stirring around me as they start their day. supposed to be tired but not feeling an inch of it at all. funny thing cause did turn up at the gym today to work things out with that knee of mine. its been almost 6 months and i'm getting more and more apprehensive each day as i don't really know what to expect after the initial benchmark of healing is over. so whats been up?

this week would be the 12th week of classes since uni started and boy is time ever going by so fast nowadays. finals period start in 2 weeks and i'm not even sure i know half of what i'm supposed to. everyone seems to be getting into gear and revving their engines and even bar on the hill has an event next wed labelled as "the last chance to party before exams". heh talk about setting the trend.

ikea. been the highlight of the past few weeks as erik and i journey down to the world's biggest furniture manufacturer for not furniture but food. erik who happens to be swedish has been getting homesick and suicidal lately as he's stuck in the hole of a place called ourimbah which is where our campus is unlike me who managed to escape to newcastle this year for greener pastures. hence upon finding out that something from his motherland is just under an hour away in syd, bang! next thing you know both of us are wolfing down meatballs with lingonberry jam and acting like kids in a candy store as we prance up and down on beds and chase each other with sticks between our legs that have horses head's on one end. and when he finally ends up in the real candy store he goes crazy and grabs everything he touches with a maniacal look in his eyes. its funny how much joy one can derived from something when one is pressed and pegged down outside his comfort zone. i feel alive. oh and one cool thing: most products in ikea which have cool-and-sometimes-tongue-twisterish names actually have meanings. really interesting how common terms in a foreign language appear novel at times.

splendour in the grass tickets are going on sale in 2days. really wanna try to make it this year as it's the premier camping music fest which would be showcasing sigur ros, vampire weekend, the fratellis, wolfmother, band of horses and the vines; just to name a few, this time around. and the second lineup has not even been annouced yet. it's gonna be dear though with at least 200 bucks being needed to be forked out. ohh boy.

found this while i was looking for wallpapers earlier

kinda cool eh? a mish-mash of album covers of music that this blogger was into during the month of january. its being used as my wallpaper now. yeeha

Juno

Those who know me well would know that I'm pretty emotional in the literal sense and that I'm quite into indie stuff so I'm always looking out for such music or movies that appeal to me. Well my latest indulgence is the movie called Juno. I say indulgence as it allows me to feed and nurture my emotional/indie soul with such shiveringly spine-tingling material that it virtually affects my life in reality. Juno is just well, wow. I've never quite watched something like that before and it left me feeling there is so much more out there and thinking I should alter my approach towards people. It's so refreshing an experience and coupled with some of the most melancholy music ever heard, really makes it hard to beat. Ellen Page and Michael Cera pull this highschool-loving-couple-who-does-it-and-get-a-pregnancy role off with such poignancy albeit some awkwardness here and there. But thats what makes this movie so beautiful. It's real and down to earth with great doses of humour. I love it.

International House has been great so far and I've met so many people from various backgrounds. Swedish, Norwegians and Cambodians are a first in my life and thats on top of Germans, French and Kenyans just to name a few. It's like a whole new world with different people from everywhere just getting together and sharing our lives. Well, more is to come

Gunners run RIOT

ARSENAL 7-0 SLAVIA PRAGUE

UEFA Champions League: First Phase Group H
Final - Emirates Stadium
Arsenal 7 - 0 Slavia Prague
Francesc Fabregas(5)
David Hubacek (og 24)
Theo Walcott (41)
Alexander Hleb (51)
Theo Walcott (55)
Francesc Fabregas (58)
Nicklas Bendter (89)

Oh what utter joy. What genuinely astonishing football.

To quote another blogger, "I can't do justice with words". This was a game where some of the finest football ever to grace the Emirates Stadium was on display and breathtaking scintillating movements down and up the pitch by the Gunners just tore apart the hapless Czechs. The Champions League scoreline record was equalled by this terrific performance and Theo and Cesc put in suitably excellent displays themselves. It's also not hard to see why Hleb has been affectionately dubbed "The White Ronaldinho" in some corners of the Emirates and Arsene aptly said this: "We just remind everybody that two months ago I was crazy not to buy players and we were not even rated to be in the top seven. We have no reason to be carried away, because exactly the same people who will now say we can win the European Cup said we would finish 15th two months ago. We have to be realistic and just prepare for the next game and show we can win it."

With hotshot Robin van Persie out injured, Theo was pushed forward in a more attacking role as he was deemed ready to be used in that manner and by golly, what a firecracker he was. His electric pace and exquisite close control had the Czech defence looking like stone gargoyles and the best thing of the night? His first ever Champions League goal! 2 goals and setting up another is absoeffinglutely sweet as they will do him heaps of good in terms of his confidence and development as a player. Cesc scored a real beauty of a goal in the 5th minute and notched up his 8th and 9th goals of the season.
The 6th was the pick of the bunch though. If ever a goal summed up a football team it was this one. From a Slavia corner the ball was headed clear and Hleb took it on and drove into their half, played it to Adebayor who turned inside, passed to Theo who dinked a beautiful little pass into the path of Cesc, who had run the length of the pitch, and he stroked it home. It was a thing of beauty. If you could paint it it would hang in the Louvre for generations and people would never tire of looking at it. There are very few teams in the world that can score goals like that and I'm lucky enough that the team I support is one of them. On another note, massive game ahead this weekend on Sunday. We will be travelling to Anfield to face the Kop of Liverpool. Oh boy, I can hardly wait.

Cesc starts the rout

Theo makes it 3-0

The goals just keep flowing

And its 5-0!

Hey you with that crafty little smile
won't you come over
Cause all I can see is through your green eyes
and thats not enough

I know that your not used to this
And you'll probably make a dash for it

But hey whats the rush?
It's only the start
Of something that you and me
Will never come to understand.

Very Simply Titled: Photography

Every time a picture is taken
abit of the world is captured
alongside the people and objects
that were the focal point of interest.

Every time a picture is looked at
something in your mind reconnects
to the past and brings you back
to when it all happened.

It's mind blowing hey
how much a picture can express
or convey in so many ways
words cant.

So when random pictures
are chanced upon
random reasons why there were taken
are remembered
and emotions rekindled.

BIRTHDAYS!

Oh yeh now that I've a blog
I just remembered I could do this
Happy Birthday Branda & Sher-Lynn!!
Have a great one guys!

Like there's always been

Sometimes you get something you want but it's still
not really yours

separated by a distance through that your
outstretched arms desperately try to grasp
but only time will tell whether your desires end up
clutched snugly in your fists.

Sometimes you feel it's time to embrace what life has
on offer at the moment and just savor it innocently like a child

but at the back of your mind you know it's an inferno waiting to ignite
at the slightest of sparks and before you know it you're burnt down
and scorched to the ground.

It's all good if you maintain a safe distance for a little while more
but the whole situation just jumps at you like a pack of hungry wolves
demanding your fateful decision of fight or flight.

It's so hard sometimes. It really is.

"When I came to visit you,
That's when I knew, That I could never have you,
I knew that before you did,
Still I'm the one who's stupid,
And there's this burning, Like there's always been,
I've never been so alone, And I've never been so alive"

-Motorcycle Drive By by Third Eye Blind-

This gem of a song is 10 years old and I regret not coming to
know of it earlier as it just strikes right at the heart and when
you scream your lungs out along to it, the whole meaning
behind the song is encapsulated and appreciated.

So I hope you do what's right in your heart and mind and above
everything, try not to regret it.

Here's to you Noelle.

I've never been so alone, And I've never been so alive
